How to keep your white bed sheets white?
How do you stay your white bed sheets white? I LOVE white sheets. I snooze with them and have for years. Occasionally I change to a design or darker color, but mostly I always come back to them.
If you also love white sheets you’ll recognize that over time they start to yellow.
Why do they yellow? Well, it’s attractive
obvious – sweat, body oils, makeup and not washing them every 7-10 days will
turn them a funny color.
Did you expect I’d recommend bleaching
them? NO, do not bleach your white sheets or pillow covers.
Bleach will whiten them for a time, but over time the bleach only adds to the
yellowing. It will also reduce the life of your bedsheets.
So what should you apply for a usual
cycle wash?
·
Baking soda
·
Vinegar
When washing your white bedsheets, add half a mug of baking soda with your detergent at the beginning of the wash cycle. Then, at the start of the clean cycle, flood in half a cup of white vinegar. Or if your washing machine has divide compartments for the flood, just add the vinegar in there at the beginning.
If you need a deep soaking session to really get rid of the yellow try:
·
1 cup vinegar
·
Lemon essential oil
·
2tbsp dishwashing liquid
After about an hour of soaking does a usual cool water machine wash? Then follow once more with the baking soda/vinegar wash above.
For a more whitening boost, hang your bedsheet to dry in the sun. Sunlight has likely bleaching capabilities plus they’ll smell amazingly fresh!
